English translation:

Abu Bakr ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Abī Mulaykah narrated from his father:

A man from the people of Syria came and insulted Ali in the presence of Ibn Abbas. So Ibn Abbas threw pebbles at him and said:

“O enemy of Allah, you have harmed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:

‘Indeed, those who harm Allah and His Messenger — Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter, and prepared for them a humiliating punishment.’

If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were alive, you would have harmed him.”
