Kudam bin Hayyan al-‘Anazi — Killed with Hujr bin Adi under Muawiya’s rule
Kudam bin Hayyan was not killed in a normal battlefield.
Sunni historical and biographical sources record that he was a Kufi Tabi‘i, from the Shia/supporters of Imam Ali a.s, arrested with Hujr bin Adi, taken to ‘Adhra near Damascus, and then killed with Hujr and his companions.
Core narration 1: Kudam was a Kufi Tabi‘i from the supporters taken with Hujr
English:
“Kudam bin Hayyan al-‘Anazi. He was from the Tabi‘in of the people of Kufa. He was among the Shia/supporters who were taken with Hujr bin Adi and brought with them to Muawiya at ‘Adhra, then Kudam was killed with Hujr.”

Ibn Manzur, Mukhtasar Tarikh Dimashq, biography of Kudam bin Hayyan al-‘Anazi.
Status:
Sunni biographical/historical report.
Comment:
This report clearly identifies Kudam as a Kufi Tabi‘i who was taken with Hujr and killed with him.
Core narration 2: Kudam was among those sent to Muawiya and detained at ‘Adhra
English:
“Hujr bin Adi bin Jabalah al-Kindi... Kudam bin Hayyan and Abd al-Rahman bin Hassan al-‘Anazi from Banu Humaym, and Mihriz bin Shihab al-Tamimi from Banu Minqar... They took them until they reached Marj ‘Adhra, and they were detained there.”
Reference:
Tarikh al-Tabari, events of year 51 AH.
Status:
Historical report.
Comment:
Tabari records that Kudam was among the men taken from Kufa, sent toward Muawiya, and detained at Marj ‘Adhra.
Core narration 3: Kudam was one of the seven men killed with Hujr
English:
“Naming those who were killed from the companions of Hujr, may Allah have mercy on him: Hujr bin Adi, Sharik bin Shaddad al-Hadrami, Sayfi bin Fasil al-Shaybani, Qabisah bin Dubay‘ah al-‘Absi, Mihriz bin Shihab al-Sa‘di then al-Minqarī, Kudam bin Hayyan al-‘Anazi, and Abd al-Rahman bin Hassan al-‘Anazi, who was sent to Ziyad and buried alive at Qass al-Natif. They were seven men who were killed, shrouded, and funeral prayer was offered over them.”
Reference:
Tarikh al-Tabari, events of year 51 AH.
Status:
Historical report.
Comment:
This is the main proof. Kudam bin Hayyan is named among the seven executed men from the companions of Hujr bin Adi.
Core narration 4: Ibn Kathir also lists Kudam among those killed at ‘Adhra
English:
“These are the names of those who were killed at ‘Adhra: Hujr bin Adi, Sharik bin Shaddad, Sayfi bin Fasil al-Shaybani, Qabisah bin Dubay‘ah al-‘Absi, Mihriz bin Shihab al-Minqarī al-Sa‘di, Kudam bin Hayyan, and Abd al-Rahman bin Hassan al-‘Anazi, who was sent to Ziyad and buried alive at Qass al-Natif. When they were killed, funeral prayer was offered over them and they were buried.”
Reference:
Ibn Kathir, al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah, events of year 51 AH.
Status:
Sunni historical report.
Comment:
Ibn Kathir confirms the same list and includes Kudam bin Hayyan among those killed at ‘Adhra.
Now ask honestly:
What was Kudam bin Hayyan’s crime?
He was from the supporters of Imam Ali a.s.
He was arrested with Hujr bin Adi.
He was taken to ‘Adhra.
He was executed with the group that Sunni historians themselves list.
This was not a battlefield death.
This was political execution under Muawiya’s rule.
Qur’an says:
English:
“And whoever kills a believer deliberately, his recompense is Hell, abiding therein; Allah is angry with him, has cursed him, and has prepared for him a great punishment.”
Reference:
Qur’an 4:93
Kudam bin Hayyan al-‘Anazi was not killed by outsiders.
He was killed under a Muslim ruler’s political order.
He was killed with Hujr bin Adi and the men who refused to submit to Umayyad injustice.
So do not use Imam Hasan a.s’s peace treaty to erase this blood.
The treaty was made to stop bloodshed.
It was not a certificate of innocence for the blood already spilled.
