A Critical Refutation of TSN’s Article: “Response to: Abubakr and Umar CURSED by the Ahl al-Bayt (as) [Part 2]”
https://www.twelvershia.net/2016/05/02/response-to-abubakr-and-umar-cursed-by-the-ahl-al-bayt-as-part-2/
This is a response to TwelverShia.net’s article in which they attempt to dismiss the argument that Sayyidah Fatimah عليها السلام died angry with Abu Bakr and Umar, and that her anger has serious theological consequences.
I am not issuing a legal fatwa of takfir here. The point is simpler: TSN’s article does not refute the evidence. It replaces explicit Sunni reports with speculation: “maybe it was a misunderstanding,” “maybe she forgave after death,” and “maybe it was only a monetary disagreement.”
But the Sunni sources themselves say far more than that.
1. Sahih al-Bukhari explicitly says Fatimah was angry with Abu Bakr until her death
The wording in Sahih al-Bukhari is clear:
فأبى أبو بكر أن يدفع إلى فاطمة منها شيئًا، فوجدت فاطمة على أبي بكر في ذلك، فهجرته فلم تكلمه حتى توفيت
“So Abu Bakr refused to give anything of it to Fatimah. Fatimah became angry with Abu Bakr over that, abandoned him, and did not speak to him until she died.”
Reference:
Sahih al-Bukhari, hadith 4240/4241
Also in Sahih Muslim 1759
Grading: Sahih
This is not a Shia narration. This is Sahih al-Bukhari.
TSN says it was a “misunderstanding.” But Bukhari does not say “maybe.” Bukhari says:
“Fatimah became angry with Abu Bakr.”
“She did not speak to him until she died.”
So the burden is on TSN to prove that this anger was invalid, meaningless, or later removed. Simply saying “misunderstanding” does not erase the report.
2. Fatimah was buried at night and Abu Bakr was not informed
The same Bukhari report continues:
فلما توفيت دفنها زوجها علي ليلًا، ولم يؤذن بها أبا بكر وصلى عليها
“When she died, her husband Ali buried her at night, did not inform Abu Bakr, and prayed over her.”
Reference:
Sahih al-Bukhari 4240/4241
Sahih Muslim 1759
Grading: Sahih
If Fatimah had truly reconciled with Abu Bakr before death, why does the sahih report say she was buried at night and Abu Bakr was not informed?
TSN’s claim “maybe she forgave after death” is not a narration. It is speculation. The only clear endpoint in Bukhari is: she did not speak to him until she died.
3. The issue was not merely “a monetary disagreement”
TSN tries to reduce the whole matter to money, as if Fatimah remained angry for “a monetary disagreement.”
But the same Bukhari report shows the matter was bigger. Ali says to Abu Bakr:
“But you acted independently/exclusively in the matter against us, while we believed that due to our closeness to the Messenger of Allah we had a share/right.”
Reference:
Sahih al-Bukhari 4240/4241
Sahih Muslim 1759
Grading: Sahih
This is not just about Fadak or inheritance. Ali himself frames the issue as exclusion from “the matter” — meaning the political authority after the Prophet ﷺ.
So TSN’s “it was just money” framing is misleading.
4. Sahih al-Bukhari also says whoever angers Fatimah angers the Prophet ﷺ
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Fatimah is a part of me; whoever angers her has angered me.”
Reference:
Sahih al-Bukhari 3714
Grading: Sahih
Another wording says:
“She is a part of me. What troubles her troubles me, and what hurts her hurts me.”
Reference:
Sahih al-Bukhari 5230
Grading: Sahih
This is the central point. We do not even need the disputed narration “Allah becomes angry for Fatimah’s anger.” Sahih al-Bukhari already establishes:
Angering Fatimah = angering the Prophet ﷺ.
Hurting Fatimah = hurting the Prophet ﷺ.
5. Qur’an 33:57 makes the issue extremely serious
Allah says:
“Indeed, those who harm Allah and His Messenger — Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter.”
Reference:
Qur’an 33:57
So the argument is not emotional. It is textual:
Bukhari: whoever angers Fatimah angers the Prophet ﷺ.
Bukhari: Fatimah became angry with Abu Bakr and did not speak to him until death.
Qur’an: those who harm the Messenger are cursed.
TSN can debate legal conditions and final judgement, but they cannot pretend this is a small issue.
6. There is also a Sunni report naming both Abu Bakr and Umar
Dorar records a narration from Sahih al-Tirmidhi, graded sahih by al-Albani:
أن فاطمة جاءت أبا بكر وعمر تسأل ميراثها من رسول الله، فقالا سمعنا رسول الله يقول: إني لا أورث، قالت: والله لا أكلمكما أبدًا، فماتت، ولا تكلمهما
“Fatimah came to Abu Bakr and Umar asking for her inheritance from the Messenger of Allah. They said: We heard the Messenger of Allah say: I am not inherited from. She said: By Allah, I will never speak to you two. Then she died and did not speak to them.”
Reference:
Sahih al-Tirmidhi 1609
Also reported by Ahmad and al-Bazzar with similar wording
Grading: al-Albani: Sahih
This directly refutes TSN’s claim that there is no evidence connecting Umar to Fatimah’s anger. At minimum, Sunni hadith material exists in which both Abu Bakr and Umar are named.
7. Umar and the threat against Fatimah’s house
There is also the famous Sunni report in Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah:
وأيم الله ما ذاك بمانعي إن اجتمع هؤلاء النفر عندك، إن أمرتهم أن يحرق عليهم البيت
“By Allah, if these people gather with you, that will not stop me from ordering that the house be burned over them.”
Fatimah then said to those gathered:
تعلمون أن عمر قد جاءني وقد حلف بالله لئن عدتم ليحرقن عليكم البيت
“You know that Umar came to me and swore by Allah that if you return, he will burn the house over you.”
Reference:
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, report 37045 / 7:432 in common numbering
Grading note:
Some Sunni researchers say the chain to Aslam is strong/sahih, while others object that Aslam may not have directly witnessed the event, making it possibly mursal. So one should be precise: this report is debated, but it is not “nothing.” It is serious Sunni historical-hadith material.
This again weakens TSN’s claim that there is no evidence involving Umar.
8. Abu Bakr’s own regret report supports the seriousness of the incident
In al-Ahadith al-Mukhtarah, Abu Bakr is reported near death as saying:
فوددت أني لم أكن كشفت بيت فاطمة أو تركته، وأن أغلق علي الحرب
“I wish I had not uncovered/entered/exposed the house of Fatimah, even if it had been closed upon war.”
He also says:
“I wish I had asked the Messenger of Allah about whom this authority belongs to, so that its people would not dispute it.”
Reference:
al-Ahadith al-Mukhtarah, narration of Abd al-Rahman b. Awf from Abu Bakr
Grading in the source: “This is a hasan report from Abu Bakr,” though it is not Prophetic hadith.
This is important because even Abu Bakr’s reported regret shows that the matter of Fatimah’s house was not a trivial “misunderstanding.”
9. TSN attacks the weaker narration but ignores the stronger evidence
TSN says the narration:
إن الله يغضب لغضبك ويرضى لرضاك
“Allah becomes angry for your anger and pleased for your pleasure”
is weak because al-Dhahabi criticized Husayn b. Zayd.
Fine. Let us assume that report is disputed.
It does not save TSN’s argument.
Why?
Because the core argument does not depend on that narration. The core argument rests on Sahih al-Bukhari:
فمن أغضبها أغضبني
“Whoever angers her has angered me.”
And:
“What hurts her hurts me.”
So even if TSN rejects the “Allah becomes angry for Fatimah’s anger” report, the Bukhari evidence remains.
10. “Maybe she forgave after death” is not evidence
TSN asks: if Shias believe Fatimah is alive after death, is it not possible she forgave Abu Bakr after death?
This is not a refutation. It is pure imagination.
Where is the narration that she forgave him after death?
Where is the report that she became pleased with him after death?
Where is the evidence that cancels Bukhari’s “she did not speak to him until she died”?
In hadith debate, possibility is not proof.
If TSN wants to claim post-death forgiveness, they must bring a report. Until then, the recorded Sunni evidence says she died without speaking to him.
11. The Bayhaqi reconciliation report cannot override Bukhari
Some Sunnis cite a report from al-Bayhaqi saying Abu Bakr visited Fatimah during her illness and sought her pleasure until she became pleased.
But this report is mursal from al-Sha‘bi. Al-Sha‘bi did not witness the event.
Even if someone uses it as a Sunni apologetic report, it cannot override the connected sahih report in Bukhari and Muslim that says she did not speak to Abu Bakr until she died.
12. TSN’s article is built on “maybe,” while Bukhari gives certainty
TSN says:
Maybe it was accidental.
Maybe it was a misunderstanding.
Maybe she forgave after death.
Maybe it was only money.
Maybe Umar is not involved.
But the sources say:
Sahih al-Bukhari:
Fatimah became angry with Abu Bakr.
Sahih al-Bukhari:
She abandoned him and did not speak to him until death.
Sahih al-Bukhari:
She was buried at night and Abu Bakr was not informed.
Sahih al-Bukhari:
Ali had not given bay‘ah during those months.
Sahih al-Bukhari:
Ali said Abu Bakr acted exclusively in the matter and Ahl al-Bayt believed they had a right due to their closeness to the Prophet ﷺ.
Sahih al-Bukhari:
Whoever angers Fatimah angers the Prophet ﷺ.
Sahih al-Bukhari:
What hurts Fatimah hurts the Prophet ﷺ.
Sahih al-Tirmidhi according to al-Albani:
Fatimah said to Abu Bakr and Umar: “By Allah, I will never speak to you two,” and she died without speaking to them.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah:
There is a serious Sunni report that Umar threatened to burn the house over those gathered with Fatimah.
al-Ahadith al-Mukhtarah:
Abu Bakr reportedly regretted exposing/entering the house of Fatimah.
Final conclusion:
TSN has not refuted the argument. It has only attempted to escape it with speculation.
If Fatimah’s anger is ordinary and irrelevant, then why did the Prophet ﷺ say whoever angers her angers him?
If the matter was only a misunderstanding, why did Bukhari say she did not speak to Abu Bakr until she died?
If reconciliation happened before death, why was she buried at night and Abu Bakr not informed?
If Umar has no connection to the matter, why does Sahih al-Tirmidhi, according to al-Albani’s grading, name both Abu Bakr and Umar?
If the house incident is baseless, why does Abu Bakr’s own regret report say: “I wish I had not exposed the house of Fatimah”?
The real issue is not whether TSN can invent possibilities. Anyone can say “maybe.”
The real issue is whether they can produce stronger evidence than Bukhari and Muslim showing that Fatimah forgave Abu Bakr before death.
They cannot.
And until they do, the Sunni record remains:
Fatimah عليها السلام died angry.
She did not speak to Abu Bakr until she died.
Her burial was at night.
Abu Bakr was not informed.
And the Prophet ﷺ said: whoever angers Fatimah angers me.

Can TSN Deny That Fatimah Died Angry with the Sheikhayn?
